It’s easy to get caught up in work-a-day chaos.  Busyness, meetings, communications, and production take over and we lose sense of who we are.  All too often, our work owns us and not the other way round.

When was the last time you took a step back and honestly considered whether or not your office space – be it a cubicle or corner suite- is working for you?

Office Survey

A 20 minute pause for reflection can reveal a plethora of issues that keep you from your best levels of success, health, and happiness.

You might not think you’re ready to take the next step of hiring a Feng-Shui Consultant, so take this baby step and implement some of the 7 Keys of Office Feng Shui to see how much of a game changer just a few tweaks can make!

7 Keys to Office Feng Shui:

1)Command Position- Get thee to the power seat! Comman Position   Your back should be to a wall and your front to entry points.  If this isn’t possible, then use a strategically placed mirror or glass framed art as a reflective surface to show you what’s happening behind you.

2) De-Clutter- Take time to go through everything in your office. Too often we hold onto papers, books, freebies, and files that have no use.  Did you move into a space and simply accept everything that was already in it as essential?

Decluttering Fun Clear un-needed and unwanted items to makes space for the future you’re working so hard to produce!

Ask Yourself: Do I need this? Do I use this? Is this essential to the work I do? Does this hold special meaning and add value to my life?

3) Mise-en-Place- Stop searching for the scissors, pens, paperclips, and power cords!.  Everything should have a clear holding space that works for you.  Essential elements are a designated space for keys, cell, purse/computer bag, and any other item that you use multiple times a day.  Once items have an assigned spot you always know where to drop them, find them, and return them. Botanicals

4) Botanicals- The easiest way to bump up the vibe is to bring in a plant.  It need not be large or even real.  Faux is better than saying no ~ to a plant.  Go to a local florist shop or Greenery and get a guided tour to by an expert to a beautiful and simple plant that will make your space immediately more alive.

5) Beauty- Create a focal point that brings you joy and adds a flourish of color and happy memories to your space.  This can be a large painting by a local artist or a beautifully framed photo.

Focal Point

6)Comfort- Consider the daily discomforts that plague your office environment and your business routine. Take all senses into account and pull in simple solutions to meet them.  Keep a beautiful throw or sweater on hand, add a fan/heater, leave a pair of posh slippers under your desk to give your feet a breath.

Ask Yourself: Do you stay cold/hot? Do your shoes hurt your feet? Is your chair working for you? What do you smell? Do you get hungry and need healthy snack options at hand?

Also, consider the flow of your space.  Are you trekking across the room every time you need to throw something away?  Do you have to move furniture around to make space for meetings? Do you bump your knees or head on furniture/cubicle?  Then it’s time to make some changes!

Blessing a Space

7) Blessing Ritual- Once you’ve made changes to your space take a moment to reflect on the positive feeling that this work has invoked.  Then, in the tradition of your faith or culture, say a blessing or prayer over the space.
